I would like membership in the blog... I truly am an amateur, I just began fooling around with this stuff and I can barely write.

I already have the badge and blogroll on my site, I figured I am so amateurish there was no way I would be denied membership LOL.

Anyway what I really want to know is how do I get the blogroll with the scrolling bar?

My blog is St. Monica's Tears, the description follows.

This blog has two purposes. The first is to share my journey of continuing conversion toward the peace and joy that is found in knowing, loving and serving the Truth which is Christ Jesus and subsists fully within His Catholic Church. I am definitely a teur!
Wait what?
It's one word? Ok... good, because I had no idea what a teur was, but didn't want anyone to make fun of me for not knowing!

But really... I am an amateur. I went to a Catholic law school where I knew all 300 students names, and yet I get about 15 blog hits a day. Sometimes my wife doesn't even read my blog. So I definitely think that makes me an amateur. On top of that, I really like the colors of the logo, and think they would look nice on my site.

I hope these things qualify me for joining the ranks of your illustrious group

Most esteemed Amateurs, I humbly request your recognition as an official member of the B Team.

If I may be so bold, I would like to apply as a Professional Amateur. I know my pride seems to walk before me in making such a request, but I do so because I was, for a time, a professional Catholic. For seven years, I studied for the priesthood and was a member of a religious order. And so, while I was not paid well (temporally speaking), I made large investments in my Professional Amateur Catholic future.

Now, I've lowered myself to pursuing a degree in law, but with a sense of humor as much of a Catholic sensibility as I can. I'm also a husband and father of three, though we lost two of them too soon. I started a blog during Lent this past year and revamped it this fall. The blog is todustyoushallreturn.wordpress.com. Now moved to http://catholicbookreport.wordpress.com/ Stop by and look around. I write about a variety of things, but mainly about seeing things through a Catholic lens. Hi! I have had a blog since Jan. 07. I started placing Catholic Teaching in my home town newspaper. Then I thought people might want to interact with me after they read the little ad so I started a blog and simultaneously posted what was in the newspaper. Before long I was blogging regularly. I have only heard from one person from town at the blog but get visits from all over the world.
I post on Bread From Heaven Unlimited bfhu.wordpress.com and The Black Cordelias theblackcordelias.wordpress.com ( I was asked to post on that site) I only get a little over one hundred page views a day on my own blog so I am definitely an amateur.

I almost hate to say this, but yes, I am a convert of 21 years (a lot of us seem to write blogs, huh?). Hello Amateur Catholics,

I would like to join your list of Amateur Catholics.

Who would you list among Professional Catholics? I would like to argue that there is only one Professional Catholic.

I would say that individuals who make a living from their Catholic writings and speaking engagements are professional writers and speakers. They just happen to know a bunch about Catholicism.

Many Catholic bloggers have the same knowledge and devotion to the Church and its teachings, but they just can't write or speak as well.

What we have in common is that we love the Church in which Jesus lives that is directed by the Holy Spirit for the Glory of God the Father. We are all Amateur Catholics, save one, since amateur means one who loves.

The only Professional Catholic is Jesus Himself. He worked in order to purchase the Church, us, at a very high price.

But whoever is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him. Avoid immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the immoral person sins against his own body. Therefore, glorify God in your body.

One thing we Amateur Catholics do is glorify God in our bodies by blogging for Christ and His Church.

May we always work for our Lord in the whatever we do, say, think, or write.

Hello Fellow Amateurs,

I am a blogger who has never made a penny off of it, and a Catholic. Is that a capital C? Anyway, I converted officially two years ago on the eve of Pentecost, that way I don't have to remember a date, I can just say the eve of Pentecost. Previous to that I was an Episcopalian for thirty years. Why did I convert?

Oh I can hear you saying, ........nope, I don't care. Women priests....nope, I don't care. A woman Presiding Bishop?....nope, I don't care.

I believe in Transubstantiation! It is just that simple.

Long ago and far away in east Texas where I was born, I was raised in the Church of Christ. If you don't know what that is, let's say it's fundamentalist and leave it at that. When some of my mother's friends asked her "how long has your son been Catholic?" She replied, "all his life, I think."

You see, I felt that when the "men" got up to the table - and we had communion weekly - and said this is my body, why, it was obvious that something had happened to that matzo cracker that made it not quite matzo anymore. Needless to say, the "men" and I had a rather difficult time working that out. So at fourteen I skipped out and becamse an Episcopalian of the more Catholic than Catholic variety.

The thing is, I hated it. It all seemed like a put on in the worst way. Then I attended a Latin Mass and had the same feeling! So I was confused. Then I went to The Abbey of Our Lady of Gethsemani, Trappist, monastery in Kentucky. You know, where Merton drank beer and wrote all those books that turned the spiritual world upside down. I started going to daily Mass there, and you know what, I realized that I was Catholic, always had been, and wasn't about to change soon, so why not just get on the horse, get some instruction, and get Catholicized. Which I did on the eve of Pentecost a couple of years ago.

www.gethsemanireflections.com has undergone many changes of personality as at first I meant for it to be a spiritual journal. That didn't last because spiritual journals are not for public reading. Then I thought I'd get involved in commenting on what the Bishops did, that just made me mad. So now I comment on the daily readings, from Office of Readings, Lauds, Terce, Sext, None, Vespers, or Mass. Sometimes I'm funny, and sometimes I'm not. Right now I have an upper respiratory infection that makes me feel less than funny.

So what do you say, guys/gals? Brothers and Sisters? Let me in? Pretty please?

I definitely want to join!!! I can't tell you how hard I laughed when I first came across someone's B Team logo on their blog. You say it all right there!

I can only dream of being on the A Team...I don't know how the Nancy C. Browns or Cay Gibsons or Maureen Wittmann's do it! I love my family with a passion, and I homeschool--although truth be told, the kids do most of the work--but beyond that, well, beyond that is often beyond me. A sense of humor is what smooths the bumps, and that is why I want to display your logo, be on your blog roll, and celebrate being on the B Team. Besides, just like Avis, don't we try harder? (Maybe that pre-dates you...it used to be Avis Rent-A-Car's slogan, "We're #2--We try harder!")

Anyway, I assume from what I've read that I'm free to copy the logo, but do let me know when and if I become an official member! Thanks!

How I came up with the name 'Scorpion Stalking Duck' for my blog is one which is too complicated to relate here. I participate occasionally on the Catholic Dads blog as well as the Catholic Doctors blog, and I contribute to another medically related blog.

I am 44 year old Catholic and the father of 11 living children. I write about whatever I wish, but lately I have been very busy and blogging has been limited. I truly qualify as an amateur Catholic, as I am still learning about my faith.

I actually have three blogs, but only one is dedicated to my thoughts on being Catholic; the other two are for my drawings (I am a freelance Artist) and for my general thoughts on life (in general), my family (married 31 years & counting, mother of eight), and anything and everything else.

Amateur Changes

Well changes are under way here at Amateur Catholic. With a little hacking we have moved from a 2 column to 3 column blog. Able to keep color and style the same just a little wider. The advantage is that the Amatuer Catholic Info is on one side and the ever growing blog roll is on the other. The screen shot is what the site looked like prior to the change.

Future planned changes include, drop down archive menu's, a drop down menu version or scroll bar version of the blogroll. Plus if you have any idea's or suggestions please submit them.

My blog couldn't decide what it wanted to be when it grew up, so I just let it be all things that suit my mood: Catholicism, politics, kids, food, language, sports, and computers.
It's a lot like life: funny, then serious, and with a case of the munchies.

Dear B Team,

I would like to be considered for amateur status. I am both an amateur Catholic and an amateur blogger. I used to be an ordained United Methodist pastor, but 15 years ago I was disabled and God called me to become Catholic--I think for the rosaries (I sleep much better with them) and the sacrament of reconciliation (I keep getting mad at God and it's the best way of "making up" I've ever run into). It's my understanding that with the exception of St. Peter, St. Paul, and St. Augustine, you have to be a cradle Catholic to achieve professional status :).

As for blogging, I've made several attempts to find a blog where some interesting conversation was taking place and so far have not succeeded (the first time it was all teenagers asking "where are you?" Now it's mostly slick sites run by people and companies who fail to make me feel at home--or are terribly serious about things that don't seem so important anymore). I haven't figured out how your site works yet, so I hope you're an exception--even if you are B-rated. If you turn out to be bummers, maybe you'll tell me what the funniest Catholic site is and I'll try it...

I am writing to say that I should not by any means be considered an amateur Catholic. After all, I have been Catholic all my life (well, ever since my mom baptized me in the kitchen sink because she was an ultra-rad-trad without a rad-trad priest). (Actually, my mom is still rad-trad. But I'm not. She thinks I've left the faith.)

I am a Professional Catholic, since after all, I have a Catholic Job. I'm a Confirmation catechist. Although they don't pay me anything. And in fact, there was no entrance exam or membership criteria; the formation staff was beside themselves that someone volunteered without being begged and cajoled first. Actually, it's kind of a raw deal for me, unless you consider the free fast food I get before class each week. The kids have to pay two dollars for what they give me!

Um. I have a Catholic Blog! Well, I don't make any money at it. I don't even get a lot of traffic. But I'm on the blog roll of a person who was nominated for a Catholic blog award! At least, I think she was.

Er. Well. I once wrote a letter to the editor of This Rock!

Okay, fine. I'm an amateur Catholic through and through. Do I get a badge for humility?

If the saints are the All Stars, then aren't we all b-team Catholics?

I mean, aren't we all sitting on the bench waiting, hoping, in some cases even praying that somehow we will be the star of an ABC afterschool special? You know, the one where the really mean but exceptionally talented popular girl insults us publicly in the lunch room about our pathetic athletic skills and we cry in the bathroom but then in the game, she gets hurt and we're put in while she recovers? Then, in a string of no less than miraculous events, we play well enough to not completly lose the game for the team such that the former real mean girl recognizes our worth both as a player and a person and the whole crowd cheers as we score the winning point with our oddly awkward serve.

Making the B-team Catholics of bloggers would be like the denoument of the show, where the whole team goes out for ice cream and the coach awards the player of the year trophy to the orriginally thought stinky players who turn out to be a loveable bunch of scrubs that everyone underestimated. Cue music, credits and fade out.

Please don't make me sit on the bench for both games. I'll work on my serve and being able to set and bump and spike I promise! Or make me manager. That's right, I won't even be on the team, I'll just be with the team. I'll carry equipment. I'll clean up. I'll pass out snacks. I won't even eat one. Just, let me ride on the bus with all the really cool people please?

I am very clearly an amateur, since it seems everyone else has already joined your team. Maybe I'm just one of the "left behind" folks and don't know it. My amateurish Catholic blog has been around for a short time, and I would love to get off the bench and join the big kids.

Hi, I would love to join.
I just started a new blog called "Like a Fire Burning in My Heart". This

OK, I think I fall in the “barely able to do my job” category. I’m a former Catholic YM (six years) who is now working as an RF engineer for VZW. As my boss says, we’re all Desktop Engineers, we move the mouse, we type, we move the mouse again. Same as all the other varieties of engineers across the nation. I’ve got six kids and a saintly wife. She’s still struggling with her Baptist roots and her reverence for the Eucharist. Oh, and I ride a bicycle a bunch, as do my kids. The oldest of them races his bicycle and I also shuttle around him and some others to races periodically. I don’t read enough books. I don’t stay up on my stuff enough online. I barely have time to read Mark Shea’s blog every day, much less all the other good stuff out there. My blog ends up mostly about family and cycling, although I do tend to work in stuff every now and then about God in it all. Like I said, I worked in a couple of TX parishes as the YM for a while and I was starting on a MA in Theology but had to drop out for a variety of reasons, so my theology tends to be a bit more empirical than theoretical. Something based in the moment. My blog also has almost no readership and I think I like it that way. You can see my blog at bullschuck.blogspot.com.

If you think I’m worthy, great. If not, that’s fine too. “If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing badly.” So if you feel I’m shoddy on my blog or dealing with stuff that’s too personal, you’re probably right. I just thought that the idea of guys pointing out that they were second string Catholic bloggers sounded too cool to pass up.

I am a middle-aged catholic priest trying to do something that people who have been in this world much shorter than I have been a priest (25 years come December 8, 2007!), that is, put up a blogsite. Hey there...just wanted to sign up a blog as an Amateur Catholic blog. Technically, it's not a new blog, but we haven't yet set about the task of publicizing it to the wider Catholic blogosphere. It'd be great to jump on to this blogroll.

Our site is a collaborative blogging project between two young Catholic men in Canada -- myself, from Alberta, and Paul Barnes, from Ontario. Its topics range, and there's almost no point setting about describing said range here...I don't want to bore anyone to tears with an exhaustive list. Suffice to say we talk about a lot of things, and all in a pretty little site design.

It stands for "Ordo Praedicatorum" or "Order of Preachers." I'm sure many of "my nuns" will agree about the "ornery" part!
